Process for chemical conversion of a gas or gas mixt. comprises contacting the gas (mixt.) in a reactor with a solid bed or at least 1 catalyst and a fluidised bed of at least one other catalyst. Pref. reactor comprises a series of hollow concentric chambers with gas-permeable walls contg. solid particles of a first catalyst, with intermediate concentric channels contg. the fluidised bed catalyst. Process allows successive conversion reactions to be carried out in a gas (mixt.) by economical means, using a single reactor. Problems of separating components in mixed catalyst systems or inactivation of one component whilst regenerating the other, found in some prior art processes, are overcome. Process is esp. useful for conversion of a synthesis gas mixt., first over a cobalt catalyst to form a hydrocarbon stream which is then converted into aromatic hydrocarbons over a zeolite catalyst; for Fischer-Tropsch conversions of synthesis gas; and direct conversion of low hydrogen synthesis gas via methanol, e.g. using a ZnO/Cr203 methanol synthesis catalyst and a zeolitic catalyst.
|
