HV-resistant colour CRT - is subjected to succession of HV applications with limited number of flashovers each time

The method of making a c.r.t. includes applying an increasing voltage to the electrodes of the evacuated tube at intervals. First, a h.v. is applied which does not cause a flash-over, and is increased until a given number of flash-overs take place. This voltage is maintained or reduced for a delay period. After this period, the voltage is again increased for a further number of flash-overs, followed by another delay period with the voltage maintained or reduced. The cycle is repeated a number of times until a final voltage is applied. The system is used for a colour c.r.t. with a fluorescent screen able to withstand a given voltage.
