<p>A decorative leatherette material comprises a synthetic base material covered with a transparent protective film and embossed in conventional manner. An engraved roller is used to produce an embossed design on the raised sections of the material, after which the surface is covered with a coloured, transparent lacquer using as colouring agents dyestuffs which are soluble not only in the lacquer solvent, but also in the polymer itself and in the underlying protective film, with which they form a solid solution. This construction enables the material to withstand considerable mechanical abrasion, sufficient to damage the lacquer coating, without showing obvious, visible damage. It is partic. suitable for upholstery or luggage materials.</p> |
