A general purpose thermometer with a triple scale has three different, mutually-independent scales each giving a clear reading. The scales consist of three parts at angles of 120 degrees to each other. A type of enamel effect is achieved on an uncoated capillary in that when the scale is viewed from the centre line of one scale side it appears on the face of the opposing scale. The inner faces of the scale are shaped to enhance the enamelled effect. The scale may consist of a different uneven number of parts, say 5. The angles between parts of the scale may be varied to alter the enamelled effect, e.g. angles of 100 degrees may be used. The scale is assembled by pressing, the scale into a holder.
