The device has a distance monitor supplying pulses representing the distance travelled to a processor which controls the forwarding mechanism for the route information device, to ensure that the information is synchronised with the position of the along the route. The distance monitor pref. comprises a pulse generator attached to one of the wheels or to the vehicle tachometer shaft. The information device may employ a tape cassette unit with the processor controlling selective playback, or a coded information web with a decoder and an optical information display. The device is cheaply and easily fitted to all types of road vehicle.
