Time measuring system between timing signals - uses extraction of measured values of oscillations from free-running quartz oscillator

The time measuring system measures the time between two time making signals by summing a series of oscillation periods of a free running oscillator to obtain a coarse measured value and obtains an analogue value for a fine measured value. The count obtained from the first time marking signal from a series of signals is continued, and a second marking signal is read and stored. To obtain the coarse measured value, the value obtained from the two marking signals is subtracted from the second value obtained by the counting system. The free running oscillator is quartz controlled. The analog measurements for obtaining the fine values are obtained by time/amplitude conversion circuits. After triggering by a start signal an output is obtained which constantly increases in amplitude to give a measure of the time following the start signal.
