Shock absorbing safety barrier for roads - has collapsible curved outer barrier with inner folded strip

The barrier is intended for use at traffic islands. The outer part of the barrier is a curved strip (14) supported by posts at each end. The strip (14) is in two parts with a weak joint (17) in the middle. A vehicle colliding with the strip (14) breaks it at the point (17) and then strikes the second barrier (35) which is made of steel strip (30) folded in a wave form and attached to the end posts by the flexible members (51). The wave form is deformed to a single curve stretching between the posts. This deformation absorbs the kinetic energy of the vehicle and so avoids serious damage.
