<p>The combination is now housed in a single, thermally insulated chamber which is equipped with (a) the evaporator of a refrigeration system which is used to cool air circulated in the chamber by a blower. (b) A freezing compartment which is permanently in communication with air delivered by the blower. (c) A cold storage compartment which can, at choice, be in open communication with the freezing compartment and blower air; alternatively, the cold storage compartment can be sealed off from the freezing zone by a removable screen. The screen is pref. in the form of a venetian blind made up of a series of slats on parallel pivot axes. The slats should all be pivoted simultaneously by a single, geared motor, pref. operated by a programmed timer. The freezing compartment is pref. located below the evaporator and air circulation blower. Used for quick freezing and cold storage of food prods. A single chamber, equipped with only a single refrigerating evaporator, is now capable of fast freezing at about -40 deg.C. followed by cold storage for long periods at -25 deg.C. This is cheaper and more compact than having to employ separate quick freezing and cold storage units.</p> |
