The device comprises two similar panels. Each panel consists of a thermally insulating dish 3. A partitiom 4 of matt black material delimits an inner space 6 within the dish 3. A closable opening 7 communicates through a wall of the dish with the inner space 6. The panels are hinged together at 9 for opening to expose the inner spaces to solar radiation and for closing with their rims abutting to enclose an insulated central space 5. When closed, the inner spaces 6 may be filled with hot or cold water to keep food in the central space warm or cool. <IMAGE>
