<p>PURPOSE:A selective herbicide, capable of killing injurious weeds growing in plowed fields where crops are raised, having safety for the crops, and containing a pyridyloxy(or thio)phenylpropionamide compound as an active constituent. CONSTITUTION:A herbicide containing one or more pyridyloxy(or thio)phenylpropionamide compounds of formula II, e.g. N-[3-methyl-4-(5-trifluoromethylpyridin-2-yloxy)phenyl]propionamide, obtained by reacting an aniline compound of formula I (X is halogen or CF3; Y is O or S) with propionic acid or a reactive derivative thereof as an active constituent. The agent exhibits a high herbicidal activity against broadleaf weeds, e.g. burweed of the family Compositae or sesbania of the family Leguminosae, without giving phytotoxicity to main crops, e.g. soybean or corn, applicable to plowed field or crops, fruit gardens and mountains and forests, and suitable selectable for any of the preemergence, post-emergence or soil mixing treatments.</p> |
