A method is described for activating, prior to polymn., a catayst which produces cryst. polypropylene and highly inhibits the formation of amorphous polymer and elevates the stability of activity of the catalyst at the time of use. The catalyst system consists of a dispersion of modified TiCl3 and an alkylaluminum chloride. Thus, a catalyst dispersion comprising TiCl3 compn. (obtained from TiCl3.1/3AlCl3 activated by grinding in hexane and Bu2O at 60oC for 2 hr), Et2AlCl and diglyme in hexane to 700L was activated by continuously feeding propylene at TiCl3/hr at 25-30oC for 5 hr.
