The hinge assembly includes at least one end piece (1) having an integral U-shaped mounting plate (2) which has two wings (5, 6) which extend from the same side of a central part (4). The plate is spaced away from the axis of the hinge and the central part of the plate contains holes (7) for the passage of screws. The end piece is pref. welded to the edges of the wings. The base plate is formed from shaped sheet metal.
