An appts. for spraying thermoplastics materials intended for protective coatings, esp. materials of a wax-like character, comprises a spray gun. The spray gun is connected by a heatable flexible hose to a heatable pump unit; this pump unit is mounted on a follower plate fixed to a telescopic column frame and containing heating elements; the plate also contains one or more thermostatic sensors projecting down below the bottom of the plate to control the supply of heating energy to the plate.
