A POLYCYCLIC ETHER ANTIBIOTIC, PROCESS FOR PRODUCING IT AND ITS USE FOR IMPROVING FEED UTILISATION IN ANIMALS

The invention provides a novel polycyclic ether antibiotic produced by the micro-organism Streptomyces hygroscopicus ATCC 31337. The novel antibiotic is designated Compound 47,224 and is characterised by solubility, melting point, optical rotation, elemental analysis and ultra-violet and infrared absorption spectra. It is described as being useful for controlling coccidiosis in poultry by administration in the diet, and for improving feed utilisation in ruminants and monogastric animals.
