The termination and support unit is for suspended high voltage cables incorporates an arcing prevention plate to prevent arcs having a burning time in excess of one second and associated with currents greater than 50kA. The support has a ring (1) structure and diametric support arms (22,23). Where the ends (15,16) of the ring (1) come together is a cross brace (17,18,19,20) assembly which has side units (17,18) forming part of the arcing suppression assembly (12,13). Between the ends (10,11) of the ring (1) and cross brace arc suppression unit (12,13) is the arc suppression head plate (5) attached to the diametric support arms (22). The a.c. suppression head plate (5) moves between the ring end faces (10,11) and has a small air gap (8,9) on either side. The head (5) is a half moon shaped, or similar, item to provide latitude of movement between ring end faces.
