<p>A contact piece with two contact surfaces (6,7) is fitted into a slot along the end of a switching arm (1). This arm is raised or lowered (3) as to hold one of the contact surfaces against either an upper (4) or lower (5) fixed contact. The contact piece is shaped like a rivet, with the two surfaces connected by a necked part (8). The piece is first formed by milling a slot along opposite sides of a copper wire coated with gold, silver, or platinum etc., and cutting off a short length. This is then inserted into a locating position inside the slot at the end of the switching arm and riveted over by a suitable riveting device.</p> |
