A laminar burner for spectrometric applications has a mixing chamber in which a liq. sample is atomised and mixed with oxidant and combustion gas before being delivered as an aerosol to a burner head. The adjustment of the combustion gas-oxidant mixture is simplified and the chamber cooling as a result of the atomisation reduced compared to conventional arrangements. This ensures that a larger proportion of the sample fluid is delivered in atomised form to the flame. A mechanical atomiser is used. The sample liq. is sucked up by a pump, brought under pressure and atomised via a valve nozzle. The mixing chamber also performs a smoothing function on the pulsations occurring in the sample liq. Condensation is reduced compared with conventional burners.
