The vehicle has its forward facing surface at least partly consisting of a material (2) which deforms on impact by a person (5). The surface areas which are most likely to come into direct contact with the head or torso are in a material whose deformation on impact remains confined to a small area so that around the indentation, the not or less deformed areas tend to prevent the victim from sliding away in lateral direction. The material may be foam plastic. Its thickness may be at least one quarter, pref. two thirds, of the dimension across the parts of the body with which it is likely to come into contact on collision.
