Ship rudder arrangement with blade on each side of screw - gives good screw position at stern and large counter clearance

The ship's rudder arrangement consists of locating a rudder (2) on each side of the propeller (1), the clearance between the propeller blade extremities and the rudders being not more than 18% of the rudder diameter in the straight-ahead position. The propeller may thus be located well aft giving good clearance under the counter and hence creating less hull vibration. The rudder surfaces are convex on the propeller side, have a sound absorbing surface, and perforation to increase the depth of the boundary layer. Their axes converge upwards.
