Specifically, the briquettes are mfrd. in the form of smooth slabs with partially shaped sides that include a fracture line structure by compacting coke oven feed coal in a roll press with binders to produce a continuous rolled slab which is subsequently broken up into individual briquettes.. The briquettes can be mfrd. relatively cheaply and process a high inherent density which results in a high bulk density in a coke oven. The proportion of fines formed in the breaking operation can be exactly predetermined to provide efficient filling of the oven.
