The installation is used to convey and overlap sheets or sheet stacks extracted from transverse cutters with a fast running first conveyor band and a slower running second conveyor band placed behind the first in the direction of conveyor movement and positioned lower. A fast running conveyor band is positioned above these two conveyor bands with a suction box located below the upper turn of the second conveyor band connected to a lower pressure source and inclined against the direction of forward movement. A suction pipe (16) fitted with a longitudinal slot (17) has a turnable bearing in the suction box (12) below its suction opening which carries out a revolution with the sheet or sheet stack and which communicates with the suction openings in an area between the sealing cuffs adjoining its circumference.
