Effective wind direction indicator for sailing boat - corrects anemometer values for pitch and roll and uses given point along mast as reference

The indicator calculates the effective wind direction acting at a given point (22) along the mast. It uses the instantaneous values for the wind velocity and direction provided by an anemometer (11) mounted at the top of the mast, together with the measured angular velocity of the boot in roll and/or pitch directions and the angular boot position values. A processor (13) is fed with the measured values together with the selected point (22) along the mast corresponding to the centre of gravity (21) of the main sail. Pref. two respective gyros (16,18) are used to give the pitch and roll velocities with the respective angular position values obtained by the processor (13) integration. The indicator is used to allow precise positioning of the main sail.
