HF radiation treatment unit for destruction of tumours - uses ring supporting transmitters mounted in horizontal radiation reflecting tube and moving along it linearly

The radiation treatment unit comprises a horizontal radiation reflecting tube (17) in which is mounted a linearly reciprocal ring (10). The ring may either be mounted so it can be rotated about its centre within the shield tube or can be pivotally mounted within an outer ring by journal pins. In this case the outer ring is rotatable. High frequency radiation emitting transmitters (12) are mounted on the ring so that the generated radiation beams intersect each other within a common volume encompassed by the ring. These radiation transmitters may be laser sources. The ring and transmitters are positioned and actuated manually or automatically e.g. by computer. The patient lies on a table inserted into the tube and each transmitter is positioned to irradiate the tumour site.
