The furnace firing equipment partic. for a ceramic-firing kiln, basically comprises one or more tubular burners in furnace sidewall- or roof-recesses, flanged to mask the opening externally. At the furnace end (10) each burner (3) carries a baffle plate (13) reducing the open cross-sectional area of the recess (2), and the space inside this behind the plate can be charged with fresh air. A gap of about 5 mm between the plate's inside rim and the burner, and between the outside rim and the recess wall, is useful, as are radial slots through the plate.
