Reactive resin moulding compsn. based on epoxide resin - contains added polymer, pref. thermoplastics to reduce shrinkage, useful for electric switch gear

Prodn. of reactive resin moulding compsns. based on epoxide resins is carried out by dissolving or dispersing 0.5-20 (wt.)% polymer (I) in a low-mol. epoxide resin (II), adding hardener and (min. 1.25, pref. 1.5-2.0% w.r.t. (II)) accelerator and opt. other additives and curing the compsn. at 140-170 deg.C. (I) is a thermoplastic polymer, pref. a polysulphone, polycarbonate, high mol. epoxide resin or low-mol. polyethylene. Before cure, the temp. of the compsn. is ca. 50 deg.C. The compsn. is specified for making low, medium and high voltage electric switch gear. It is esp. useful for pin insulators, ducts and switch housing covers. Shrinkage is reduced and the mfg. time is as short as possible.
