A recombinant lead acid storage battery includes positive plates 50 alternating with negative plates 52 and separated from them by separators 14 of microfine glass fibre material. The amount of electrolyte is insufficient to saturate all the pores in the separator material and the active electrode material. The electrodes of the negative plates are made of a lead alloy containing calcium and those of the positive plates are made of an antimonial lead alloy containing 1 to 4% by weight antimony. |
