<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the titled dimer useful as a raw material and an intermediate for various resins in high purity and yield, by forming an alkenylaniline mixture containing phenol into a solution with a specific alcoholic solvent, and heating the resultant solution. CONSTITUTION:An alkenylaniline mixture containing phenol obtained by heating and cleaving a hydroxyphenyl-aminophenyl-alkane in the presence of a basic catalyst is formed into a solution in the presence of one or more solvents selected from a saturated aliphatic alcohol (etherified or esterified substance), e.g. diethylene glycol ethyl ether or an aromatic alcohol(esterified substance), e.g. benzyl alcohol having a higher boiling point than the phenol. The alkenylaniline is then dimerized while distilling the phenol and the solvent by heating at preferably 140 deg.C or below.</p> |
