Surgical sutures are prepd. from a block lactide-glycoside copolymer (I). Thus, L-(-)-lactide was polymd. in the presence of SnCl2 and lauryl alc. to give polypeptide with on intrinsic viscosity in (CF3)2CO. 1.5H2O at 30oC of 0.33. The polylactide was copolymd. with glycolide to give I of intrinsic viscosity in (CF3)2CO 1.5H2O 0.77 and m.p 218oC. The I was extruded and streched to form sutures.
