The convection heater uses hot water as its main heat supply and has a casing (4) with a heating coil housed in its bottom half, and an auxiliary electric heater (12) above it. This is still positioned in the bottom half, and the heated air (16) is discharged through a grille over the top. The heating coil is incorporated in a set of vertical parallel plates (8) each with horizontal tubes (10) from end to end. Those in one plate are staggered in height against those in the adjacent plates. Their ends are connected to form a zig-zag path for each plate. They are made of extruded plastics containing an additional material having good heat inducting properties. Between the auxiliary heater and the heating coil is a curved heat shield (14).
