The N-contg. polysaccharides obtained by extn. of Coriolus basidiomycete mycelia can promote the drug sensitivity of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and also increase the antibacterial potency and prolong the effect of antibiotics. These polysaccharides have mol. wt. 5000-3000,000, contain C 42.0-46.0, H 5.3-7.0 and N 0.5-8.0%, are sol. in H2O but insol. in Me2CO, pyridine, CHCl3 hexane, and have a 62/38 to 97/3 saccharide/protein ratio. Use of the N-contg. polysaccharide at 100 ug.mL decreased the min. inhibitory concn. of chloramphenicol(I) from 25 to 6.3ug/mL and from 50 to 12.5 ug/mL for I-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, resp.
