Heat collector panel for solar heater - has insulation layer of air between glass and semi absorbent layers

The heat collector panel for a solar heater system has a transparent glass pane (2) below which is trapped a layer (4) of air, forming an insulation layer. This air is also trapped by an intermediate layer (6) which allows a major part of the heat to pass through to a heat exchange fluid (8) circulating below. The fluid travels along channels (24) formed by ribs (22) projecting upwards from a lower layer (10) of material which absorbs the remainder of the heat. Below this layer is a thick insulation layer (20). The intermediate layer is a semi-absorbent layer made of a glass fibre reinforced polyester. Its sides are flanged and adjacent flanges (12,15) overlap, so that these layers are self-supporting. They absorb between 10 and 50 percent of the heat passing through the glass.
