The rod or telescopic aerial for a vehicle can be swung between a horizontal and a vertical position. The base of the aerial screws into a rod (17) acting as the hinge, retained inside a housing (12) fitting inside an insulating shell (14) mounted on the outside (10) of the vehicle. The base of the aerial passes through a slot at the end of the housing to screw into a hole tapped through the rod. The rod is retained inside a cavity (22) with its axis at right angles to the aerial, and a securing bolt (25) is passed through a slot at one side, with its head retained in another cavity (16). This is fitted with a nut (37) and washer (36) which clamp an eye (28) on the end of the connecting cable underneath.
