A centrifugal pump has a first bladed impeller (14) and a second rotor (15) which surrounds the first rotor (14) and whose inner circumference closely adjoins the outer circumference of the rotor (14). The second rotor (15) has a multiplicity of orifices (34) through which essentially the entire volume of the liquid between the pump inlet (12) and a tangential outlet is forced. The second rotor (15) can be rotated at half the rotational speed of the first rotor (14), as a result of which the losses due to the flow resistance between the rotor (14) and the pump casing (10) are reduced. On the other hand, the rotor (15) can be driven by the liquid flowing through, and at least part of the energy normally lost to the flow resistance can be recovered at a shaft (22). <IMAGE>
