PURPOSE:To increase the charging capacity and the life of a sealed alkaline storage battery, by forming a gaseous-phase insulating paint film on the gaseous-phase side surface of an auxiliary electrode used for gas disappearance, as well as forming a film, which is impregnated with an electrolyte and is unsaturated with that, on the other surface of the auxiliary electrode. CONSTITUTION:A carbon powder added with silver catalyst is affixed to a sintered nickel base plate, a porous auxiliary electrode-plate 1 having hollow cylindrical center being formed. A coating material such as an epoxy resin is applied to the entire cylindrical inner surface 1a, top and bottom ends 1b and 1c of the plate 1 to form a paint film 5, which insulates the plate from the gaseous-phase side of that. Next, a cylindrical outer surface 1d of the plate 1 is wrapped in a porous soft coating member 6, which is separately prepared, is impregnated with an electrolyte and is unsaturated with that, such as a porous separator. A sealed storage battery is constituted by inserting such an auxiliary electrode plate 1 in the central hole of a rolled assembled element consisting of negative plates and positive plates. Owing to the above constitution, the battery life can be lengthened, and the charging capacity can be increased. |
