<p>The tubular cladding is used in tunnel drive shield units, to form a tunnel ring. Provision is made for hinged connection of tubbing sections in longitudinal joint areas. In these areas (8-13), in addition to the hinge joints, the tubbing (1-5) are connected by screws or bolts. Dimensions of these are pref. such as to allow them to accommodate pressure applied for sealing the joint gap, but, in general, not for accommodating flexural moment. The tubbings may be centrally screwed together through the hinge joint. Elastic sealing strips may be let into the ends of the tubbings facing the joint, on both sides of the hinges. Abutting tubbings are easily joined to form a stable ring, with effective sealing against high water pressure, even with uneven loading.</p> |
