A positive yarn-feed device for a circular knitting machine comprises a toothed delivery roller around which passes a toothed feed-belt. The belt passes around at least two independent drive pulleys, loosely mounted on separate shafts which are rotating at different speeds. The drive pulleys can be coupled to their shafts via pneumatically-operated friction clutches, which can be selectively operated by a patterning mechanism, whereby the belt speed can be altered during the knitting cycle to vary the yarn delivery-speed. The shafts are driven from a single power source by a common belt which passes around variable-diameter pulleys affixed to the shafts. The device is relatively uncomplicated and inexpensive, and enables the production of high-quality, forming fitting garments, esp. female underwear, by allowing variation of the yarn delivery-speed during the knitting cycle.
|
