<p>The proposed application of a two part snap together core is to chokes with reduced inductance which is determined by an air gap in the magnetic circuit. The design gives at least 20 per cent reduction in inductance in comparison with a full core of the same cross section. The core has two joints. A full area joint in one core limb (7) is made with an oblique face (9). The second joint is between a yoke section (4) and the other core limb (6). Snap action fastening is provided by overlapping projections (12, 15) on the mating faces. The air gap effect is produced by cutting away part of the yoke section (4) to leave a slot (13). The snap action fastening ensures that the core sections are firmly clamped thus reducing noise due to vibration. The yoke area reduction can be varied to give the required inductance.</p> |
