MINING EQUIPMENT CONTROL SYSTEM

A control system in an underground mining installation employs control devices 9 which receives command signals from a common line 11. The control devices 9 provide individual electrical control signals on lines 12 to operate hydraulic valves or the like which in turn actuate mining equipment such as roof supports 1 to 6. The electrical power for the control devices is tapped off from the power line 13 of the mine lighting system by means of converter devices 15 located in the lamp housings of the lighting system. These converter devices 15 ensure that the electrical control signals are at an intrinsically safe low power level.
