Water-proofed insulating compsn. for heating coils in tubular radiators contains organic titanates applied to the surface of an inorganic, oxidic or silicate substrate. Pref. titanates contain alkoxy gps. as well as long-chain carboxylic acid-, acrylic acid, partly organically esterified phosphoric-, pyrophosphoric- or phosphorous acid gps. and have formula R-O-Ti(OR1)3, (I), (where R or R1 are isopropyl, lauryl, myricyl, stearoyl, isostearoyl or acryloyl gps., diisooctyl phosphate-, pyrophosphate- or phosphite gps. or substd. benzene-sulphonate ester gps.). Isopropyl-triisostearoyl-titanate use is claimed. The titanate reacts with the insulating compsn. grains to form a lasting protective layer. E.g. MgO reacted with isopropyl- triisostearoyl-titanate has asymptotic wt. increase 0.5% in a water vapour-satd. atmos. at 20 deg.C.
