Coin operated gaming machines that deliver a number of coins when a winning combination is obtained utilise selector solenoids that are operated in sequence. Normally the operation of the solenoids is accompanied by an appreciable noise level that is considered to cause nuisance to anyone in the vicinity. In order to reduce the objectionable nature of the noise the operation of solenoids is to be according to a rhythmic sequence, following a simple melody. The signal sequence may either by provided by a programmed microprocessor or by a mechanical timer.
