PURPOSE:To decompose ammonia without nitrogen oxides being generated by providing a temperature sensor at a place within a half way to this side of wind in a catalyst layer in the decomposition of ammonia-containing gas by catalytic oxidation. CONSTITUTION:When an ammonia-containing gas from a diazo-dry type duplicator, etc., is preheated and decomposed by catalytic oxidation, a temperature sensor is placed at a place within a half way to this side of wind in a catalyst layer and the ammonia-containing gas is passed through the catalyst layer at a space velocity of 5,000-100,000hr<-1> while altering the amount of preheating the gas by making an allowance for the heat of reaction to be produced when decomposed. Thus, because catalytic decomposition reaction occurs at proper temperature, the ammonia-containing gas can be stably decomposed without nitrogen oxides being generated. |
