PURPOSE:To make a device compacter, heighten integration and lower costs, by connecting a semiconductor laser oscillator and a plural number of optical device consisting of semiconductor laser optical amplifier that copossesses a part of active layer thereof, with the latter to be connected to the former in multisteps manner. CONSTITUTION:An oscillating part 1 and an optical amplifying part 6 of both first step device A and second step device B are so formed to copossess a part of an active layer 13. Direct currents higher than threshold value are flowed to a semiconductor laser oscillator 1 to cause the oscillator 1 to an oscillating state. Under such a state when input optical pulses 10 are applied to an optical amplifier 6 to be amplified by the amplifier 6 and connected to an active layer of the oscillating part 1, oscillation by the oscillator 1 can be quenched because of a fixed amplified gain on the part of the amplifier 6. In other words, the oscillated output light, that is, the incident optical pulses 11 to the device B become inverter outputs. The when the pulses 11 are applied to the device B and the same operation as the device A is performed, the output pulses 12 from the device B become in the same phase as the pulses 10. Thus a repeater can be formed in any optical region, resulting in the compacter device. |
