A closed-circuit washing machine for textiles tumbles the articles in a cold, aq. soln. of bromides or bromic acid and ozone. The used liquor is returned to the reservoir from which the washing vessel is supplied, whence it is returned to the vessel for re-use after filtration and replenishment of the cleaning agents. The quality of the water is monitored by redox-potential sensors which control the addition of bromides and ozone, and terminate the washing process when the maximum potential is restored. The liquor requires no heating, giving considerable economies in energy consumption and washing-time. Water consumption is reduced to a minimum, and waste liquor is eliminated, preventing environmental pollution.
|
