The piston rod of a thrust cylinder, connected to the flap, is completely separable from the cylinder tube attached to the mounting ring, when the cylinder is subjected to a pressure medium during emergency conditions, to enable opening and closing a smoke and heat flue flap or ventilation flap. The thrust cylinder is of double-action type (1). At the extension end of the cylinder tube (4) there is a cylinder plug (2), secured by a bolt release device (3) ahead of an emergency flap opening. The flap may be provided with a releasable position- securing device. The compact cylinder provides both for complete emergency opening, and for opening for interior venting and ventilation.
