The socket for the male part of the clasp had a transverse bridge (2) running behind the opening with the spring (3). The spring is U-shaped and placed round this bridge to spring in at the recesses either side of the bridge in order to engage on the neck (6) of the head of the male part (5). A transverse web (12) in the female part socket fixes the height of the spring with cover flaps (14) which engage laterally over the transverse bridge. The clasp is now made by placing the male (5) and female parts (1) together and then spreading out the U spring (3) in the female part. The clasp is opened by turning the two parts relative to each other.
