PURPOSE:To effectively correct the deflection, by giving a convex crown to the roll to make the roll contact at the middle of the roll drum and uncontact at both ends of the roll drum so as to place the roll under the condition approximate to three- point bending support. CONSTITUTION:The sleeve-type backup roll causes a deflection by the elastic deformation due to the axial asymmetrical slip between the sleeve 1 and the arbor 2; this deflection of the backup roll is corrected by idling the rolls within the rolling mill. For this purpose, a convex crown 4 is given to the roll 5 in contact with the backup roll 6 whose deflection is to be corrected. As a result, an effective bending deformation is caused in the roll; hereupon, the size (radius) of the crown is limited to 1.5X10<5>mm. at the maximum. Besides, at correcting the deflection, the maximum load is once given to the roll, and the load is gradually reduced while rotating ther roll; hereby, the deflection can be further reduced. |
