Glass panels for greenhouses are provided on the inward- facing side with a light-transmitting film which is attached to the periphery of the panel such that a permanent air gap of at least ca. 1.5 cm is maintained between the glass and the film. Pref. films are (UV-stabilised) polypropylene, polyethylene or polyester with a transparency of at least 90%, and are adhesively bonded to the glass panels round the edges. Pref. the air gap between the glass and plastic film is 1.5-2.5 1-3 cm. The plastic film is bonded to the glass pref. e.g. with adhesives based on polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl acetate, phenolic resin, polyvinylformals, polyacrylic acid or methacrylic acid esters. The combination panels have improved thermal insulation than plain glass, thus saving energy used in heating the greenhouse, and also give improved control of condensation on the panels so that humidity control in the insulated greenhouse is facilitated. |
