1468790 Salts of chloroacetic acids HOECHST AG 19 June 1975 [6 July 1974] 26131/75 Heading C2C Alkali metal, ammonium or alkaline earth metal salts of chlorinated acetic acids are produced by reacting a chloroacetic acid with a suitable base and/or salt-forming derivative thereof at 20-150‹ C. by introducing them into a fluidized bed reactor, the bed being prepared from the resulting salt and being fluidized by means of an inert gas or liquid, and the resulting readily flowable salt is discharged from the fluidized bed reactor continuously or intermittently, at the same rate as it is being formed. Liquid or dissolved chloroacetic acid is preferably sprayed into the fluidized bed reactor or molten acid is introduced in vapour form by means of an inert gas. The basic compound may be added either in substance, solution or suspension and is preferably an oxide, hydroxide, carbonate or ammonia. In the examples sodium monochloroacetate, ammonium monochloroacetate and potassium trichloroacetate are prepared.
