<p>PURPOSE:To speed up a printing action by providing a means to detect a character code for a blank character and a means to omit the heating action of a thermal head when a blank character is detected at a thermal printer. CONSTITUTION:In the control circuit of a thermal printer where an output from a latch circuit 1 where a character code is input is input to a head driver 3 through the intermediary of a character generator 2, and a thermal head 4 is heated at a drive signal from the head driver 3 to carry out a dot pattern printing, a blank detection circuit 5 is provided. When a character code for a blank character is detected by means of the detection circuit 5, the heating time of the thermal head is shortened in such way that it may be such duration as to be almost ignored, and a carrige motor 8 is started immediately. At the same time, a carriage is shifted by one character in a blank spot. Under this constitution, a printing action duration can be cut short.</p> |
