Bicyclic compounds of the formula: (FORMULA) having a simple or double bond in the position indicated by the dotted line and wherein m=2, n=1 or m=1 and n=0 and wherein the symbol R represents a hydrogen atom or an acyl residue comprising 1 to 3 atoms of carbon, have useful organoleptic properties and may therefore be used as perfuming and flavouring ingredients. Their olfactory characters are of the wooden, sandal type. The compounds of the formula (I) are prepared by an original process from campholenic aldehyde. |
